Avoid fake drugs

Counterfeit drug, of course, is dangerous. But, how can we know that some drug is false or not? Well, here are some steps we can do to avoid fake drugs:

  • Buy medicine only in pharmacies, particularly for prescription drugs.
  • When receiving the drug, you are encouraged to meet directly with the pharmacist to ask for an explanation of the drug. If necessary, ask the pharmacist’s also a phone number so if there is suspicion/doubt about the drug, can immediately ask for an explanation.
  • Note the integrity of the packaging, is still sealed properly or not. Do not accept if you have a disability.
  • Observe all packaging cleanliness. This step is necessary since not a few fake drugs derived from expired drugs and drugs that have been discarded in the trash and then washed again as bookmarks in the form of expiration date removed or replaced.
  • Observe the label on the packaging that contains information about the drug name, manufacturer name, batch code number, expiration date, production date, and registration number which consists of 15 digits (example DTL7217206637B1), as well as the marketing authorization number (NIE) of POM.
  • Compare prices. If drug prices far cheaper than usual prices for the same product, there’s nothing wrong alert although this can not always be used as a benchmark.
  • Annihilate the drug immediately residual or expired drugs in a way to destroy it and damage the packaging, so as not to be used by responsible parties.
